How much does an Odoo implementation cost? What really drives the price

How much does an Odoo implementation cost? What really drives the price

It is the first question almost every business asks us, and the honest answer is that it depends on a handful of factors you can identify before the project starts. Once you know them, you can get quotes that are comparable and budgets that hold.

1. Licences: edition and number of users

Odoo Community is free and open source. Odoo Enterprise is a per-user subscription that adds apps such as Studio, Field Service, Helpdesk, Subscriptions and full accounting, plus Odoo's official upgrade service. Licence prices are published on Odoo's pricing page and vary by plan and region, so always check the current figures for your country.

2. Scope: how many apps and departments

A focused rollout of two to four apps with standard processes is a very different project from a multi-company rollout covering manufacturing, inventory, accounting and HR. Scope is the biggest driver of implementation effort.

3. Data migration

Moving customers, products and open balances is routine. Migrating years of transactional history from a legacy ERP, cleaning duplicates and reconciling it all takes real time. Decide early how much history you actually need in Odoo.

4. Customisation

Every custom module has to be built, tested and then maintained through future upgrades. The cheapest projects, both now and over five years, are the ones that adapt processes to Odoo's standard flow wherever the business can, and customise only where it genuinely cannot.

5. Integrations

Connections to eCommerce platforms, payment gateways, shipping carriers, banks or industry-specific systems each add effort, especially when they need to be two-way and fault tolerant.

6. Training, go-live and support

Budget for user training, go-live support and an ongoing support agreement. Skipping these is the most common reason a technically sound Odoo system ends up underused.

How to keep the budget under control

  • Start with a short paid discovery so scope is written down before anyone quotes a fixed price.
  • Phase the rollout: core finance and operations first, nice-to-haves later.
  • Challenge every customisation request with the question: could we change the process instead?
  • Ask partners to separate licence, implementation and support costs in their quotes.

If you want a realistic estimate for your business, tell us which departments you want to move to Odoo and what you use today. We will come back with a written scope and an honest view of cost and timeline.
