Odoo Community vs Enterprise: which edition does your business need?

Odoo comes in two editions. Community is free and open source; Enterprise is a paid subscription built on top of it. Choosing the wrong one either wastes money or leaves you rebuilding features Odoo already sells. Here is how we help clients decide.

What both editions share

The core framework and many popular apps are in both editions: CRM, Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Manufacturing, Point of Sale, Website, eCommerce, Project and Invoicing. Thousands of third-party modules on the Odoo Apps Store support Community, Enterprise or both.

What Enterprise adds

  • Additional apps such as Studio, Field Service, Planning, Helpdesk, Subscriptions, Sign, Documents, Appointments, Quality, PLM and Barcode.
  • Full Accounting with bank synchronisation and financial reports, plus country-specific localisation reports.
  • Odoo's mobile app and a more polished user interface in places.
  • Hosting on Odoo Online or Odoo.sh, alongside on-premise.
  • Version upgrades of standard data handled through Odoo's upgrade service, and official Odoo support.

When Community makes sense

Community works well for businesses with a small set of standard processes, an in-house or partner technical team to host and maintain the system, and no need for Enterprise-only apps. Community users often close gaps with third-party modules; for example, our Studio Community app brings Studio-style field and view editing to the Community edition.

When Enterprise is worth it

Enterprise usually pays for itself when you need full accounting with bank feeds, Enterprise-only apps, mobile access for field teams, or you want Odoo to handle hosting and upgrades. The licence cost is often lower than building and maintaining the equivalent features yourself.

Our advice

List the processes you need, mark which ones depend on Enterprise-only apps, and compare the licence cost against the cost of custom development and long-term maintenance. As an official Odoo Ready Partner we implement both editions and can supply Enterprise licences, so our recommendation follows your requirements, not our margin.
