Building a mobile app for your Odoo ERP: when it makes sense and how

Odoo already works in a mobile browser, and Odoo Enterprise has its own mobile app. So why build a custom one? Because some users do not need the whole ERP. A driver needs today's deliveries and a signature pad. A technician needs job cards and a camera. A customer needs to reorder in two taps.

When a custom app is worth it

  • Field teams who need a simple, task-focused screen instead of the full ERP interface.
  • Work in places with poor connectivity, where the app must work offline and sync later.
  • Customer-facing ordering, booking or loyalty apps under your own brand.
  • Hardware features such as barcode scanning, GPS, camera and signatures.

How the app talks to Odoo

Odoo exposes its data through an API, so a mobile app can read and write customers, orders, tasks and stock with the same permissions as a normal user. We keep business rules in Odoo and the app thin, so there is one source of truth and the app stays easy to update.

Native, cross-platform or PWA?

For most business apps we recommend a cross-platform app with React Native, which gives you one codebase for Android and iOS. For simpler internal tools, a progressive web app (PWA) can be faster and cheaper because it needs no app store. We choose after understanding who uses the app and where.

Publishing and maintenance

Store listings, privacy policies and data-safety declarations are part of the job, as are updates when Odoo or the mobile operating systems change. Plan for maintenance from day one, not as an afterthought.
